NIA Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham Presented by Imperial College Punjabi Society.
As proud grand sponsors of The Bhangra Showdown 2016 for the third year running, this show is truly a highlight in the Kudos calendar.
This year's show, for the first time was taken to the home of UK Bhangra, Birmingham. With nine universities battling it out for the number one prize. With 4000 pre event tickets sold, guests sieged in on the Barclaycard Arena anticipating what would be, unbeknown to them, the biggest Bhangra competition in the world.
Building on the success of the 2015 show was imperative, setting such a high standard last year meant that this year need to be unique in its own right.
Working together with sister company Kudos AV, Kudos Music were proud to sponsor this huge event enticing the audience with spectacular Audio and Visual effects. In-house Robe Lighting and 234 Absen A3 Pro LED Screen panels were used alongside our D&B Audio Technik line array speaker system. The show was designed by Tom Grant, lighting operated by Nathan Wan and Visuals by Alex Gallego.
From the moment go, the atmosphere was electric inside the arena with a mix of university students cheering on their teams to the general public both young and old, all enjoying one common factor, Bhangra dance!
The show hosted by Tommy Sandhu from the BBC Asian Network was a true spectacle, with special performances from E3UK artists and Punjabi Superstars, Ammy Virk, Dilpreet Dhillon, Mankirt Aulakh, Resham Anmol and Desi Crew. Their performances led to Bhangra being performed not just on the stage but around the whole arena too.
With some spectacular dance performances from all teams including Nottingham Trent University, Aston University and University of Birmingham, it was Imperial College London who ran out the winners. A fantastic achievement.
Kudos would like to thank Imperial College Punjabi Society, in particular Jagvir Grewal for allowing Kudos to once again grand sponsor and perform at The Bhangra Showdown.
A huge team effort by all involved creating one of the most memorable nights in Bhangra history.
